This weekend I have been hiding in my home to avoid the flu... well not really. Instead I have been tearing through the house finding things I no longer need and posting them on Craigslist. For those of you who may not know Craigslist is a worldwide free classified system most famously used to find murder victims, but most of us just use it to find and sell junk. This weekend I posted lots and lots of stuff, some free, some not. All of it ready to go asap, to clear room and make me some $$$ (to pay for piano lessons and such). However this was a very disappointing weekend because of some annoying buyers. Ok, so you say you want my stuff, and tell me when you'll be here. Then e-mail me twenty minutes after the time you should be here to tell me you'll be two hours late and then never show. Or ask to pick something up for free then e-mail me at the last minute to say no, you changed your mind. So I feel compelled to outline some rules that should be followed for Craigslist.
1. When you say you are coming to get something, then come and get it. Do not reschedule, do not cancel, you have made a commitment and someone is counting on that. Arrive within 15 minutes of the appointed time.
2. If it is free do not ask tons and tons of questions about it. I can just throw it in the trash or donate it to charity and I would prefer to instead of answering hundreds of questions about a toaster.
3. Be reasonable, I have posted something for twenty dollars. It sells new for eighty dollars. So do not offer me five. That is just insulting.
4. Have the right size vehicle. Do not tell me that you are guaranteed to take it then show up in a Geo to get a sofa. It doesn't work that way. And do not ask if I can drive a bookshelf to the metro. No it will not fit on one of those little shopping carts.
Follow these simple guidelines and Criagslist will be a much better place, oh yeah and don't kill any of the people you meet there.
